As we start the new year, we’re putting our philanthropic plan to work for 2021 and are also reminded of the work we did to help our community over the last year.
And with many unforeseen challenges for so many in 2020, the need to work together and stay connected as a community was more important than ever. Looking back, here’s a few of the ways we made sure we harnessed the power of community.
The Working Centre was established in the spring of 1982 as a response to unemployment and poverty in downtown Kitchener. The Centre grew roots in the Kitchener downtown through the dedication of Joe and Stephanie Mancini, a young married couple who had just graduated from St. Jerome’s College at the University of Waterloo.
While COVID-19 forced some of us to change our summer plans, the impact has been more severe for the most vulnerable people in our community.
As many people and families navigate the added stress of job loss, limited budgets, illness, and full-time childcare or home-schooling, more than 34,500 people have struggled to put food on the table.
Our annual Tri City Golf Tournament has raised a total of $328,625.15 since 2010 towards the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre and Local Charities!
Thanks to participants and sponsors, this event has been a huge success, raising over a quarter of a million dollars for The Lutherwood Foundation.
